(Xinhua) Seven Taliban insurgents have giving up militancy and handed over their weapons to local authorities in Baghlan province, 160 km north of capital Kabul, on Wednesday as a cleanup operation goes on, police said.
"Seven Taliban rebels under Mullah Shahabudin handed over their weapons to security forces in Dahnai Ghori district today and resumed normal life,"provincial police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi told newsmen here.
He also added that a cleanup operation with the objective to wipe out insurgents in Dahnai Ghori district and ensure viable peace there has been continuing over the past two days.
Taliban militants have not made comment yet.
Dahnai Ghori has been regarded as Taliban hotbed in Baghlan province over the past one year.
